Mission
The IBRO Publications Committee's mandate is to oversee the IBRO journal Neuroscience. The committee's tasks are:
- to assist the Editors in maintaining the highest standards in scientific content of the journal and to ensure that it promotes excellence in and awareness of neuroscience research from all regions of the world and in all areas of neuroscience research.
- to ensure that the running of the journal is such that the Editors can duly exercise their editorial responsibility. This implies that the Editors should be allowed and encouraged to monitor all stages of the publication process - from manuscript submission to copy editing.
- to suggest new ideas for the journal content and format and encourage the Editors to consider new forms of presentation of neuroscience research.
- to respond to complaints from Editors, Authors, IBRO Executive or Publisher and to solve any problems that may arise in a timely fashion.
- to work with the Publisher and with IBRO WEB to ensure that the journal is well presented and its contents advertised and easily accessible.
- to seek candidates for, and monitor the election of, new Editors and Section Editors as their terms expire.
- to maintain efficient communication between the Editors and Publisher, currently Elsevier, to ensure smooth running of the journal production process and timely publication of reports in paper and electronic form.
- to ensure that the Editors have the resources they need to carry out their Editorial functions as efficiently as possible.
- to form new contracts with the Publisher as the contracts expire and to ensure that issues relating to the current contract are swiftly dealt with and that the contract is fairly maintained.
- to monitor the general scientific publishing environment worldwide to ensure that Neuroscience maintains and increases its stature in the general framework of scientific and neuroscience journal publications and follows the latest trends in electronic and paper publishing.
- to discuss and agree the budget for journal production and the editorial process annually (in July) with the Publisher, according to guidelines outlined in the current contract. Accounting of expenses for the next year, as handled by Elsevier, together with estimated profits to IBRO for the next year and update on profits for the current year should be prepared and presented to the IBRO Finance Committee by the Publications Committee and the Publisher toward the end of August. Annual journal profit to IBRO then forms part of IBRO's general income for all parts of its program.
