| IBRO's Women in World Neuroscience: a year of success |

A leading organization for women in neuroscience
The IBRO Women in World Neuroscience Programme celebrates its first year since its creation. Judy Illes, WWN Chair, lists the many goals set and met by the WWN committee over the year. WWN, she reports:
- were formally recognized as a new IBRO committee
- held a first committee meeting at SfN 2008
- created an executive sub-committee
- formed working sub-committees on development, outreach and others
- created a financial and accounting infrastructure
- developed a web presence
- began creating interviews of women leaders (we need more of these)
- created and distributed a position statement to major organizations
- held two needs assessment workshops with two forthcoming (India and Egypt)
- created a monthly online briefing
- held networking luncheons
- made plans for a SfN social for 2009
- made plans for a WWN event in 2010 at FENS in Amsterdam, and in Lesotho where Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth will be in attendance
- had a presence at the Canadian Association of Neuroscience in May 2009
- continuously received requests for and added new committee members
Judy Illes invites new members: "And now, with IBRO's vision and deep commitment, WWN takes on the role of the leading organization for women in neuroscience. We are privileged to have this opportunity and look forward to great achievements in the coming years. Please join us."
