The IBRO Fellowships Programme aims to foster neuroscience research especially in less well-funded countries by providing support to high quality neuroscientists from diverse geographic and scientific areas (US/Canada Region excluded) who wish to broaden the scope of their training in neuroscience by working abroad in good laboratories, or participating at international neuroscience meetings.
Priority is given to those who have not obtained funding from this programme within the past three years and who, after completion of the fellowship, are willing to return to their home countries, bringing with them new knowledge and skills to advance neuroscience in their regions.
Only applications completed before the corresponding deadline will be considered.

IBRO-FRSQ-INMHA Albert J Aguayo Fellowship Application deadline: September 1Amount: $8,300
Le Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec (FRSQ) and the Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction (INMHA) of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), established 2007 a new FRSQ-INMHA fellowship named after Dr Albert J. Aguayo of McGill University, past President and past Secretary-General of IBRO, to mark his outstanding contribution to neuroscience in Quebec, Canada and the world. Dr Aguayo is a long-term champion of IBRO and of the Neuroscience School Programme, recipient of many prestigious awards including the Prix du Québec (Wilder-Penfield) in 1994.
The purpose of this special award is to enable students from developing countries to spend a three-month term in a Quebec laboratory. One fellowship of $8,000 (including living and travel expenses) would be awarded annually to be funded equally by INMHA and FRSQ through a joint selection process.
Proposed Terms of the Award
• The fellowship is opened to students from developing countries in four of the six IBRO Regions: Africa, Asia-Pacific, Central & Eastern Europe and Latin America. • The specific criteria for the award, the application procedure and selection process are jointly developed by IBRO, FRSQ and INMHA. The selection process is coordinated with the assistance of the relevant IBRO Regional Committees. • Fellowships is tenable in Quebec within 12 (six) months of being awarded. A list of prospective host laboratories is provided as part of the call for applications but students may identify their own hosts.

Return Home Fellowships Application Deadline: September 1Amount: up to 20,000 Euros
The objective of the Return Home Programme of IBRO is to coordinate efforts with other organizations to both improve the opportunities for productive neuroscience research (allied to health services) within the less advantaged regions of the world and to provide more aid to those researchers trained overseas who wish return to their home countries.
Three profiles of scientists will be the main target of the Return Home Programme of IBRO:
- Postdoctoral fellows who have finished research training in neurosciences (including clinical research) in a center of excellence of a developed country.
- Research students who have been trained in a Centre of Excellence in Brain Research (CEBR).
- Scientists who are developing a successful basic/clinical research career in a developed country and wish to return to their country of origin or to a less developed country for personal or cultural reasons.
